Wines of Burgundy

Marché aux Vins possesses a special space where a beautiful selection of Burgundy wine and gourmet products is available. Marché aux Vins partners were chosen for the quality of their wines and the people that produce them. In our wine shop, you will find a fair presentation of Burgundy classification: regional, village, premier cru and grand cru appellations. In Burgundy, white wines are produced from Chardonnay grapes while the reds come from Pinot Noir.

Village Appellations

village, vins de Bourgogne
The vineyard of Burgundy possesses more than a hundred of appellations that are divided in a real mosaic of terroirs called climates. These climates were classified as a part of World Heritage by UNESCO in July 2015. There are about thirty villages that give their names to the wines under village appellations. The wines from Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits are extensively presented at Marché aux Vins, since Beaune is the capital of Burgundy wines. You will find quite a large selection of appellations: starting from the wines that represent a good value for money and finishing by the collectible fine wines.

Premier Crus

Premiers crus, vins de Bourgogne
Less than one third of Côte d’Or is classified as Premier and Grand Cru. The premiers crus hold the names of their villages, followed by the name of the climate they come from. When several premier cru parcels are blended together, there is only the name of the premier that appears on the label.

Grands Crus

Grands Crus, vins de Bourgogne
There are 33 Grand Crus in Burgundy situated in Côte d’Or and in Chablis. Corton is the only grand cru in Côte de Beaune that possesses 7 out of 8 white grand crus. Chablis Grand Cru, the 8th white grand cru of Burgundy can be followed by a name of one of its climates (Blanchot, Bougros, Les Clos, Grenouilles, Preuses, Valmur, Vaudésir). You can find a nice selection of grand crus from Côte de Nuits, like Ruchottes-Chambertin and Clos Vougeot. But also those from Côte de Beaune, including Corton-Charlemagne and Corton-Bressandes.

Hospices de Beaune Wines

Hospices de Beaune, vins de Bourgogne
For more than 35 years, Marché aux Vins buys the wines at the world famous Hospices de Beaune wine auction. It also proposes the wines from Hospices de Dijon and Hospices de Nuits Saint-Georges that come from the vineyards that were once bequeathed to Hospices. As a result, the wines hold the names of all these generous donors.
