A powerful Celtic whisky is very peaty
Ardbeg produces the most peated single malt in Scotland. Located between the islands of Jura and Scarba, «Coirebhreacain» is the name of the third largest marine tourbillon in the world. Legend has it that a young Viking named Breacan had to survive 3 days and 3 nights in this biggest whirlpool of Europe, to prove his love to the daughter of the Lord of the Islands.
Tasting :
Old gold color with coppery reflections. Incredibly smoky nose, roasted. First very powerful peat, then yeast and beer fermentation notes, and finally barley and methane appear. The palate is rich, very concentrated on very intense peat notes.
In the final, its tempestuous character fades a little. with the cereal clearly restored, but also notes of smoked fish, spray, and to finish with marmalade with almonds. Nice structure.
Awards :
Gold Medal, World Whiskies Awards 2018
Silver medal, Outstanding, International Wine & Spirit Competition 2013
94/100 Excellent, Highly Recommended, Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2013
