Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2017, Domaine Bonneau Du Martray

Domaine Bonneau Du Martray, based in Pernand, offers two wines, one red and one white, from neighbouring crus located on the Corton hill. But, it is mainly its white, the famous Corton- Charlemagne that has given the estate its long-standing international reputation. According to the Abbé de Courtépée, a historian of the eighteenth century, the Clos that Charlemagne gave to the collegiate church of Saulieu in 775 and the one owned by M. Bonneau-Véry, founder of the Bonneau du Martray estate, were one and the same. This cru is located at the top of the hill, where the clay soil contains more limestone and is much more suitable for Chardonnay. This Corton-Charlemagne is one of the most nervous because its vines are oriented to the south and south-west rather than to the east as is the case with the vast majority of its peers. As a result, they receive less sunlight during the day. Its aromas of citrus, honeysuckle and peach will evolve into notes of hazelnut, cinnamon and honey. It is characterized throughout its life by exceptional vigour, power, and persistence.

A grilled lobster or a truffled Bresse chicken are great companions for this Prince.
